30 teenagers deliver at Kigorobya Health Centre 4 every month

At least 30 expectant teenagers are received every month seeking antenatal services at Kigorobya Health Centre 4 in Hoima District, reveals a health officer.

Dr Lawrence Baluku, the In-charge of the healthcare facility says this is a rise in digits compared to the past years where less than 20 would be received in the same period.

He says the situation has been associated with birth complications since some girls cannot ably carry the pregnancies to delivery.

According to the medic, some teenagers reach the time of delivery when they are malnourished due to lack of care needed by a pregnant mother.

Dr Baluku adds that the number of teenagers seeking delivery has increased congestion at the health facility that serves people from different areas in the neighbouring districts like Buliisa and Masindi and those from across the eastern DR Congo.

The physician was quoted while addressing people during a charity visit to the facility by the Hoima city-based Flobetto Nursery and Primary School recently.

The school donated an incubator to save the lives of premature babies. The school also donated a TV set and a StarTimes decoder.
