Police in Arua have recovered a Sub Machine Gun (SMG) with nine rounds of ammunition from two yet to be identified criminals along Arua Vurra- Custom Road at the border with the DR Congo in Vurra sub-county.

Ms Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), said that the rifle Reg. No. UG POL 48002035 was recovered after the criminals riding on a motorcycle dumped it immediately after seeing the police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers on patrol approach them during curfew time.

She added that the criminals who were heading towards Vurra Custom dumped a black bag containing the gun before taking off in the incident that occurred on September 7, 2020 at around 10pm.

Ms Angucia said the joint forces on patrol pursued the fugitives in vain but later came back and picked up the bag only to find the gun and nine rounds of ammunition inside.

The police PRO revealed that the recovered gun was one of the three rifles that were stolen from Lobule Prison in Koboko district about a month ago.
