The Awach Sub-county Local Council 3 chairman elect in Gulu District, Fred Oteka, 41, has died.

Mr Richard Watmon, the Paibona Sub-county LC3 Chairman and former Speaker Awach Sub-county, told this website last evening (Tuesday) that Oteka died on Monday night after being admitted at Awach Health Centre 4 in the afternoon complaining of stomach ache.
Mr Watmon says the deceased had earlier in the day seen eating pork at one of the local joints at Awach trading centre before he started complaining of stomach ache.
Mr Shanon Otika, the incumbent Awach Sub-county Chairman, says the deceased did not have any signs of complications before taking the meal.
“We met shortly before I heard of his passing on and he was just looking very sound health wise,” said Mr Otika.

A police report filed at Awach Police Station on Monday, February 15, 2021, reads:
“The deceased went to Awach primary school to meet the school management and on his way back home, he went to a pork joint and ate some pork. Thereafter, as he was proceeding to his home, he developed chest pain and on reaching home, he started vomiting. He was rushed to Awach Health Centre 4 where he was pronounced dead”.
Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Regional Police Spokesman, confirms the report adding that a case of sudden death was registered at Awach police station vide Gulu DEF 01/2021.
Mr Okema further said the body was taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for examination.

“Postmortem has been done and the results indicate chest complications and damage on part of the lung which blocked the breathing system and that confirmed it was natural death” says Mr Okema.
Oteka who was also a businessman at Awach trading centre contested as an independent candidate and beat four other candidates to attain the chairmanship seat in the just concluded general elections.
Other contestants were Mr Isaac Ojok, Mr Ivan Anywar, Mr Geoffrey Ojara and Mr Christopher Kalokoya.
