Baby found dead in Kibaale forest

A newly born baby has been found dead in a forest in Kibaale District.

The baby’s lifeless body was discovered by residents yesterday (Wednesday) morning by one of the residents of Karungi Village in Kyakazihire Sub-county, Kibaale District.

Local leaders say residents reacted to the report and moved to establish the mother of the baby only to find that it was a 26-year-old woman who had delivered the previous day.

Mr Innocent Karema, the village chairman identified the baby’s mother as Macklin Ogumoshabe a resident of the same area.

The chairman said arrested Ogumoshabe before handing her to Kyakazihire Police Post for further legal management.

He adds that Ogumoshabe confessed to the local leaders that she had dumped the baby in order to avoid responsibilities since the father did not show responsibility during pregnancy.

“I am finding hardships to care for the children I have, how if they become three? That is what forced me to do that”, the suspect told the area chairman.

The whereabouts of the man who impregnated her remain unclear.

Police comment could not be readily secured.

But she might be charged with infanticide since the bay was found dead.
