The Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, the Rt Rev Samuel Kahuma Abwooli, has expressed dismay over some men who neglect their children saying the future of the country will depend on how the young generation will be shaped.

Confirming 79 people into the Christian faith at St Andrew’s Kyakiruube Church of Uganda in Bugambe sub-county, Kikuube district, the bishop was unhappy saying some men have left them their wives to nurture their children yet it is the responsibility of both parents to instill good values in their children.

“Several mothers in society are struggling alone to fend for their children yet these children have fathers. Both parents ought to instill good discipline in their children to enable them grow up fearing God, respecting elders and having human value,” he said.

The bishop urged parents to continue guiding, advising and teaching their children good morals in this era where people see children as rowdy.

“Don’t get tired of talking to children in this time when parents are complaining that children are unruly. Get time to talk to your children, don’t get tired of guiding the young generation for if you do, the future of the society will be doomed.”

The cleric was also concerned that some parents do not value education for their children yet it is one of the vehicles that foster development in society.

“Some parents end up at producing children yet they are obliged to offer education to them and provide them with scholastic materials. Previously, parents would inherit their children with land. But nowadays land is no longer enough due to the increasing human population and land does not grow. Take your children to school. By not prioritising education means a major setback in development, Bishop Kahuma added.

At the function, the bishop also laid a foundation stone at the church and Shs10m was contributed towards the finishing of the construction of the church building.
