The Bunyoro Amasaza Cup tournament that were halted due to the outbreak coronavirus in the country might resume next year, discloses Mr Zakaliya Lubega, Head of Corporate Affairs at China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Uganda Ltd.

During a media engagement in Hoima last week, however, Mr Lubega said the resumption will depend upon the prevailing situation of the pandemic that led to the closure of the economy almost two years now.

His disclosure followed concerns from soccer lovers why the tournament is yet to resume in spite of government opening up the sports sub-sector in October last year after being closed due to the outbreak of the pandemic in March last year.

“CNOOC had on agenda the resumption of the tournament next year as it had it this year but could not implement it due to the prevailing situation of Covid-19. When the Covid-19 situation slows down, we shall continue with the programme,” Mr Lubega told reporters.

The tournament used to draw participants from all eight districts that form Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom including Greater Masindi that consists of Kiryandongo, Buliisa and Masindi districts; Greater Kibaale that comprises Kagadi, Kakumiro and Kibaale districts and Greater Hoima composed of Kikuube and Hoima districts.

CNOOC has all along been the sponsor of the tournament in line with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
