The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has declared the Masindi District LC 5 chairman, Mr Cosmas Byaruhanga, as the party flag bearer for the same seat in the 2021 general polls.
Speaking to the press yesterday (Tuesday), Dr Chris Baryomunsi, the Western region NRM Vice Chairman, explained that there has never been any change in flag bearing from the time Mr Byaruhanga was declared winner of the NRM primary elections.
Dr Baryomunsi said although Mr Wilson Mugimba lodged in his petition before the NRM elections tribunal disputing Mr Byaruhanga’s victory, it was too late since the latter had already been nominated as flag bearer by the party Electoral Commission.
The development comes at a time when both Mr Mugimba and Mr Byaruhanga claim the flag manifested in their posters displaying a bus- a symbol of the NRM party.
Dr Baryomunsi condemns Mr Mugimba for using the symbol yet he does not have any letter from the NRM secretariat confirming him as the flag bear.
