Denis Omedi’s hat-trick elevates Kitara FC second in UPL

Kitara FC's Denis Omedi, scored a hat-trick against UPDF FC 'soldier boys' today (Saturday), February 3, 2024 at Bombo stadium.

Kitara FC have this (Saturday) afternoon humbled UPDF FC with 3-0 goals shifting the Royals to second on the Uganda Premier League log with 32 points, two behind leaders BUL FC.

The Hoima-based Pride of Bunyoro officially bounced back for the second round of the StarTimes UPL away at Bombo barracks stadium.

A second half masterclass from Denis Omedi saw him score three times as Kitara beat UPDF 3-0 at Bombo stadium to go second replacing SC Vipers who ended the first leg in the second place but they are yet to play.

After the goalless first stanza, Omedi broke the deadlock with an improvised header to put the visitors in the 57th minute lead.

He doubled the lead in the 65th minute with a well taken strike after getting behind the defence to hit a half volley with substitute Frank Tumwesigye Zaga sending him through on goal.

Omedi was not done yet as a similar run behind the naïve UPDF defenders saw him get at the end of a long ball from his goalkeeper to stab home and make points safe.

Kitara FC have now for the first time in UPL registered the first hat trick and also Omedi registering his first ever hat trick for the Royals since he joined the club last year.

The Pride of Bunyoro has continued their winning ways after having ended the first leg with a win against Bright Stars at home and this win has boosted their hopes in the title chasing with just two points behind the table leaders – BUL FC.

The Royals now leapfrog Vipers and with 32 points sit second on the log. Their next encounter will be with SC Villa at Masindi stadium in Masindi municipality and they will be looking to strengthen their position in the fight for the UPL title.

The last time the two giants met, Kitara defeated Villa at their own home Mutesa II Stadium Wankulukuku in Kampala on the opening fixture of this season.
