FDC’s Amuriat arrested, arraigned before court for sitting on top of his vehicle in Kibaale

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Presidential candidate Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) and his driver, Michael Emorut were yesterday (Thursday) arrested and arraigned before Kakumiro Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Kakumiro District.

According to the party, their candidate was charged with sitting on top of his vehicle at Kasalaba trading centre in Kibaale district while the driver was charged with reckless driving.

Appearing before the Kakumiro Grade One magistrate, Abdullah Kayiiza, the duo pleaded not guilty to the offences.

Represented by Counsel Franklin Byekitinisa, Mr Amuriat and Mr Emorut were granted non cash bails.

 “Both have been granted a non cash bail of Shs500,000 each and were ordered to return to court on February 3,2021,” said FDC in a statement.

Earlier, Amuriat and his campaign entourage were intercepted at Kasalaba trading centre in Buyanja county East, Kibaale District, arrested by Joint Anti Terrorism (JAT) squad under the command of the Albertine Regional Police Commander (RPC) SP Obura.

Mr Amuriat and Mr Emorut were later taken to Kakumiro Central Police Station from where the presidential candidate and his driver were arraigned before court at 7:30pm.
