Five police and UPDF officers injured as police patrol vehicle overturns

Five Special Police Constables (SPCs) and two Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers were today (Sunday) rushed to Anaka General Hospital after they were involved in a road accident at Gweno Otwom Village in Lungulu Sub-county, Nwoya District at around 1:40am.

The injured SPCs have been identified as Ronald Kidega, 21, James Opiyo, 23, and Gloria Akello, 23 while the injured UPDF soldiers include Kenneth Komakech, 29, and Mohammed Rosaki,23.

The security agents were travelling in a police truck Reg. No UP 7735 driven by a one identified only as Okeny. These were heading to Alero sub-county.

The truck was taken to Nwoya central police station.

The Aswa River Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Jimmy Patrick Okema, attributed the accident to over speeding.

However, he said the whereabouts of the driver were still unknown by press time.

“We are still investigating where exactly the vehicle was going at the time of the accident, said Mr Okema talking to Kazi-njema News reporter.
