Fugitive man kills wife in Nwoya

A 33-year-old woman has died after her husband hacked her with a hand hoe at Lukar Trading Centre in Lungulu Sub-county, Nwoya District.

The deceased identified only as Winnie and resident of Dog Aswa village in Lungulu sub-county met her demise on Friday after her husband, Edward Opio, 39, reportedly hacked her in the head.

According to the Dog Aswa Village Chairman, Mr Richard Ojok Loka, Winnie’s lifeless body was found laying in a pool of blood at around 6am.

The chairman told Kazi-njema News stringer in Nwoya that the duo hailing from Loro village on Oyam district was heard fighting between 5-6am for a yet to be known reason.

Mr Ojok says the married couple neither had a history of bickering nor of fighting wondering what could have led to the incident.

“We could not ascertain any reason for the killing since they [married couple] did not show it as they were living peacefully,” said Mr Ojok.

The chairman says Opio, who is currently on the run, took off with the son he sires from another woman but fostered by the slain wife adding that the authorities are hunting for him to be brought to book on charges of murder.

Contacted for a comment, the officer in charge of Nwoya Central Police Station, Mr Kenneth Agaba, confirmed the report.

The law

According to Article 188 of the Penal Code Act, any person who of malice aforethought causes the death of another person by an unlawful act or omission commits murder and shall be sentenced to death as a maximum punishment.

Meanwhile, local authorities of Pabit East village in Purongo sub-county, Nwoya district on Thursday, December 17, 2020, discovered a decomposing body of a man in a house.

The village chairman, Mr Michael Odong identified the deceased as  Richard Komakech alias Card in his 40s.

Odong’s body was discovered at around 1pm.

The deceased who was a casual labourer hailing from Kitgum had earlier complained of a headache, according to the chairman.
