Health workers quarantined as Coronavirus case confirmed at Masindi Hospital

An unspecified number of health workers have been quarantined after a Coronavirus case was confirmed at Masindi General Hospital.

The acting Masindi District Health Officer, Mr Patrick Baguma, told this website that the hospital authorities decided to quarantine the health workers after a female patient from Kijuura Cell in Central Division, Masindi Municipality who had been admitted to the female ward tested positive for the virus.

Mr Baguma said the patient has already been transferred to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital Covid-19 Treatment Unit while the health workers who accessed the ward have been quarantined for 14 days waiting for results from their samples that have already been taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute for screening.

However, he could not readily state the number of the quarantined health workers by publication time.

Mr Baguma said he might be forced to get the staff from the lower health facilities to reinforce those on duty at Masindi hospital in case the need for more human resource rises.

The health officer said the case is a community transmission that puts the district at risk of more cases.

He appealed to the public to continue observing standard operating procedures and social distancing as issued by the ministry of health to stop further spread of the virus.
