The family of the former Hoima district chairman, the late Kadir Kirungi, has expressed intentions to produce his replacement through the forthcoming by-election under the law.

The interest in the post was boldly spoken out at the former chairman’s burial at Buswekera cell in Hoima city yesterday (Sunday).

During his speech, the late Kirungi’s eldest son Uthman Mubarak Mugisha, appealed to the mourners to support anybody who may emerge from Kirungi’s family in contest for the now vacant district LC5 position.

He appreciated the mourners for the support accorded to the family in different ways ever since their father died in a fatal road crash on his way to Kampala from Hoima on Friday last week.

The young man served as a Guild President at Hoima School of Nursing and Midwifery two years ago before joining the employment world.

Mugisha’s ideology was firmly amplified by his uncle, Mr Amlan Tumusiime, who is the serving Kikuube Resident District Commissioner (RDC).

Mr Tumusiime condemned Kirungi’s political opponents who had allegedly celebrated his death the previous night jubilating that their political seat had returned.

He affirmed that he was sure that the post was to remain in Kirungi’s family.

In his speech, the RDC revealed how he was the chief campaign strategist for his fallen brother Kirungi, especially at the time he assumed the office of LC5 chairman.

At the same burial, Mr Richard Rwabuhinga, the President of Uganda Local Governments’ Association (ULGA), urged the people to put aside political ambitions for Hoima chairpersonship until the Electoral Commission (EC) green lights campaigns for the by-election.

Kirungi was aligned to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ruling party throughout his political life.

His family’s interest in the post is similar to the late Jacob Oulanyah’s family whose ambition was supported to succeed the NRM leadership and members.

Oulanyah was Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda and Member of Parliament for Omoro County constituency in Omoro district, a post now occupied by his son, Mr Andrew Ojok.

The former speaker succumbed to cancer, according to medical reports disputed by his father, Mr Nathan L’Okori who insisted his son was poisoned.

At the same Kirungi’s funeral, the team supporting Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential ambition revealed that their ideology was not opposing President Museveni and the NRM party but rather to prepare an MK Movement as a ‘standby generator’ for Uganda to avoid what they described as a ‘power blackout.’

Gen Muhoozi is the country’s Presidential Advisor on Special Operations and son to President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni.

President Museveni’s brother, Shadrach Nzeire Kaguta who carried a commiseration message said he was delegated by Lt Gen Muhoozi who urged the NRM supporters not to mistake them for a negative force.

Mr Nzeire pledged to continue supporting Kirungi’s family describing the deceased as his great friend and supporter of the MK Movement.

Mr Nzeire challenged the late Kirungi’s family members to emulate their deceased family head.

Aside from cash condolences, he pledged to offer 10 Friesian heifers to the late Kirungi’s family for rearing to boost their income.
