A 62-year-old man has stabbed his 43-year-old wife to death in an incident that took place at Kisiiha Village in Musaijamukuru West Parish, Buhimba Sub-county in Kikuube District.

The deceased has been identified as Mary Kemirembe, a born of Kitaihuka village in Kakumiro district while the husband has been identified as Erineriko Baliija.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that Baliija had for long been accusing his wife of allegedly denying him his conjugal rights as well as coming back home late in the night.

According to their daughter, Beatrice Mbabazi, her parents had been consuming alcohol at Kisiiha trading centre but her father returned home earlier yesterday (Wednesday) before the deceased also came back home while drunk.

Mbabazi told this website that no sooner had her mother returned home at around 10pm than her father immediately hacked her with a knife in the chest even without the duo uttering a word. Kemirembe breathed her last at around midnight.

John Balikagira, a brother to Baliija said that his advice his brother to stop consuming alcohol fell on deaf ears, resulting in continued misunderstandings with his now deceased wife.

The Kisiiha village chairman, Robert Amara, said that Baliija approached him recently informing him of the misunderstanding between him and his wife before promising to return for mediation once he got money.

However, the chairman narrated that he told Baliija that the matter could be solved even without any need for money to ensure that peace and tranquility prevailed in their home.

Amara said that since the duo did not show up before the village council, he thought that they had solved the matter internally.

The chairman told Kazi-njema News that he was later astonished to hear that Baliija had stabbed his wife adding that efforts to rush her to a health facility for treatment hit a snag since they were defeated in getting transport means at midnight.

The Albertine Region Police Publicist, ASP Julius Allan Hakiza, said that the two had reportedly been ardent alcoholics and frequently fighting at home.

The police officer said that Kemirembe died from profuse bleeding adding that Baliija has been arrested on charges of murder.
