Inter-Forces Games open in Masindi

The 17th Edition of the Inter-Forces Games 2023, on Monday began at the Police Training School (PTS) Kabalye in Karujubu Division, Masindi Municipality with the Minister if Internal Affairs, Gen Kahinda Otafire, stressing that the objective of the event is to promote closer cooperation among the security forces in Uganda.

During his address at the inauguration ceremony, the minister also highlighted and emphasised the importance of the collective efforts in ensuring a safe and secure Uganda as the four key security forces in Uganda including the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police, Uganda Prisons Service and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) come together for the games.

Maj Gen Tumusiime Katsigazi, the Deputy Inspector General of Police acknowledged the positive impact of this platform in fostering inter-agency cooperation and ensuring fruitful partnerships among the security forces.

Representing the Chief of Defence Forces, Brig Gen Daniel Kakono, also emphasised that the games served as an avenue to strengthen the existing spirit of cooperation among the forces, underscoring that through such initiatives, the security agencies could enhance their coordination and forge stronger bonds.

Dr George Muge, the Director of Prisons in-charge of Cooperation and Corporate Affairs who represented the Commissioner General of Prisons, stated that they had acted as a constant reminder of the crucial importance of cooperation among the forces, stressing that the cooperation was vital in maintaining a safe and secure environment in Uganda.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Director of the UWA, Mr Sam Mwandha, the Head of Communication and Public Relations, Mr Bashir Hangi, highlighted the significance of the games in promoting not only physical fitness but also camaraderie among the troops.

He specifically emphasised the need for the spirit of camaraderie to permeate the games from start to finish.

The 17th Edition of the Inter-Forces Games will feature a range of disciplines including range shooting, football, athletics, darts, volleyball, handball, netball and taekwondo.
