The three National Unity Platform (NUP) party leaders who were Monday arrested in Kagadi have been released on police bond.
The trio includes Mr Jocias Tumukwasibwe, the Kagadi NUP Vice Chairperson, Mr Brian Asingwire, the Buyaga East Parliamentary candidate and Ms Anna Nasaka, the Kagadi district LC 5 contender.
These were arrested for attracting a mammoth procession in Kagadi town shortly after launching their campaigns at their party offices on Monday.
The procession was contrary to the preventive guidelines set by the Health Ministry and the Electoral Commission to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
The NUP leaders were also wearing red berets that were banned by security.
mr Stephen Kamar, the Kagadi District Police Commander, says the trio was charged with holding an illegal procession and failing to adhere to the Covid-19 preventive guidelines before being released on bond.

Speaking to the press shortly after their release, Mr Tukwasibwe accused the police of confiscating their campaign materials including posters and loud speakers during their arrest.
