Kagadi VHTs, village chairpersons storm district offices over unpaid Covid-19 allowances

More than 30 Village Health Teams (VHTs) and village chairpersons from various sub-counties in Kagadi District have stormed the Kagadi district headquarters demanding their allowance arrears under the Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund.

Kagadi district received Shs510m from the Ministry of Health to facilitate village Covid-19 task forces.

Each VHT and village chairperson was entitled to Shs150,000 and Shs100,000 respectively with payment to be cleared in July this year.

The VHTs who spoke to our stringer expressed discontent over non-payment of their money yet they performed their duties efficiently.

The Kagadi Resident District Commissioner, Ms Lillian Ruteraho, criticized the District Chief Finance Officer for delaying to pay the VHTs.

She wondered how the CFO failed to pay the VHTs yet he had promised to do it on Wednesday at 2pm.

By press time the RDC had promised that the VHTs that would be cleared by close of business yesterday.
