The Hoima-based Kitara FC has this (Friday) evening shared points with the all-time UPL champions SC Villa at Masindi Stadium in Masindi Municipality.
Both clubs played a goalless draw in the first half but Kitara opened the goal account in the 57th minute through Brian Aheebwa, tapping from close range after Villa’s goalkeeper, Meddie Kibirige, spilt the ball into his path at the verge of the hour mark.
Kitara’s score came after Villa’s Cyrus Kibande’s indecisiveness that saw The Royal’s Jude Ssemugabi regain the ball to shoot at goal only for Kibirige to parry the ball towards a waiting Aheebwa.
The visitors dominated the game and actually had the ball into the back of the net in the 54th minute through Charles Lwanga but his effort was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper.
However, later, Villa equalised through Patrick Kakande at the evening time of play, hence, the game ending in a one-all draw.
Villa continue their unbeaten run in the away games making it the only team with that record currently in this UPL season.
The Royals, who are The Pride of Bunyoro and the Jogoos have faced in their second encounter this season which saw the former collect four points after having defeated the latter at Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium in the opening fixture.
Despite sharing the points, Kitara FC remain 2nd on the UPL table with 33 points four behind leaders BUL FC while Villa stay put in 4th on 30 points.
Kitara will next host Gaddafi FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32 at Masindi Stadium on Friday, February 16, 2024, before visiting KCCA FC in the Uganda Premier League at MTN-Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday, February 23, 2024.
