Kitgum police are holding a woman on charges of stabbing her brother to death over Shs500.
The suspect has been identified as Freda Acan while the deceased has been identified as Ponsiano Onek, 38, a peasant farmer at Juba Village in Akara Parish, Mucwini Sub-county in Kitgum District.
Mr Michael Oryem, an eyewitness, told our reporter that the incident took place at around 6pm at Lacen-otinga east village, Mucwini sub-county when Onek demanded his sister Acan his Shs500 balance after buying local wine from her shop but she declined.
Mr Oryem added that Acan’s refusal sparked off a fight between the two in which she used a long knife to stab his brother in the left side direct to the heart.
The father of four, was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The Aswa River Regional Police Spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema, confirmed the report adding that the suspect was arrested, detained and charged with murder vide reference number Kitgum CRB 518/20.
“On receipt of that information, police rushed to the scene and recorded relevant statements from witnesses, postmortem done and the body handed over to relatives for burial” said Mr Okema.
It is not clear whether the duo had an underlying grudge that was catalysed by the incident.
