Lady Doves qualifies for semi finals in CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers

Uganda’s representative at the inaugural CAF Women Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, Lady Doves, defeated Burundi’s PVP FC in the last match of Group A played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Friday.

Spencer Nakacwa, Norah Alupo and Fazila Ikwaput were on target for the Believers to book a place in the semi finals.

Lady Doves finish second in Group A having collected 7 points level with Simba Queens who topped the group with a superior goal difference.

Lady Doves opened the campaign with 5-0 victory over FAD FC before a goalless draw with Simba Queens.

The Masindi based side started off brightly with Spencer Nakacwa breaking the deadlocks in the 4th minute.

Norah Alupo doubled Lady Doves lead in the 15th minutes to score her second goal of the tournament.

Striker Ikwaput made it three for the Believers to register her 3rd goal of the tournament after a brace in the first match.

And three first half goals for Lady Doves were enough for the side to reach the semi final.

Lady Doves will face Ethiopia’s CBE in the Semi final while Simba Queens will take on Vihiga Queens.

Speaking after the game, Rajab Buyinza the Assistant Lady Doves Head Coach said they will go back to the drawing board to polish their mistakes ahead of the semi final.

“We thank God for winning today’s game and qualifying for semi finals” he says.

“We shall go back and prepare and lay the strategies well in order to represent Uganda well. As we promised, we shall put up a good show and fight for our country and also the Lady Doves badge to see that we compete well”.

“The game wasn’t bad. However, we scored few goals. Fortunately, we have won so we shall go back to the drawing board to improve what we didn’t do well.”
