Masindi-based Lady Doves FC have returned home after claiming a third position in the CAF Women Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers held at Nyayo Stadium in Kenya.
The team played five matches without being beaten in normal and extra time of play.
However, it lost to Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in a penalty shootout at semi-finals.
Lady Doves’ chairman, Julius Mugisa, says though the team did not achieve their target, they marketed Uganda.
“We may have fallen short of our target or failed to meet your expectation. But what I can assure you of is that we did not fall short of glory. We made Uganda proud. The girls put a memorable show.” Says Mugisa.
He adds that since they have not made it well in the CAF Women Champions League Qualifiers, the team aim to buttressing their efforts in the national league as a conduit back to the tournament.
“Our journey this year in CAF-WCL Qualifiers has ended and our focus will now turn to national league to aim at seizing another opportunity to represent Uganda at future qualifiers for the same. We picked a lot of positives.” I am hopeful that not long ahead, we will return to the tournament this time luckier, wiser, bigger and better,” Mugisa continues.
