LDU personnel shoots, injures self in Agago

Otim Ayala. a Local Defence Unit personnel, bleeds after shooting himself in Agago District yesterday.

A Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel attached to Labwor Dwong army barracks in Paimol Sub-county, Agago District has shot and injured himself.

The Aswa River Regional Police Publicist, Jimmy Patrick Okema, says Otim Ayala shot and injured his mouth, nose and the lower part of the jaw using an AK- 47 rifle registration number 56-15534962.

Before the incident that took place at around 3pm yesterday (Wednesday), Mr Okema says that Ayala, who was drunk at the time, first shot two bullets into the air along Kalongo-wol Road in front of the town council offices.

Ayala, who was in company of another LDU personnel, Joe Canamita, was heading to Kalongo Hill Army Detach where the duo had been deployed.

The police publicist told this website that Ayala was disarmed before being rushed to a health facility for treatment adding that the police were investigating circumstances that led to the shooting.

Recent shooting

On June 7, 2020, Martin Okello, 24, attached to the 5th Infantry Division from Labwor Dwong army barracks shot himself dead while on duty.
