A 36-year-old man has committed suicide after developing a misunderstanding with his wife in Pader District.
The deceased identified as Simon Omon, resident of Lapaya Village in Kalawinya Parish, Angagura Sub-county reportedly committed suicide on 22 this week following a domestic misunderstanding on Saturday evening.
Reports indicate that before his death, the deceased first set their marital house ablaze before disappearing into the bush. However, he resurfaced on 22 September at around 8pm and his father ordered for his immediate arrest.
Before his arrest, the youths realised that Omon looked frail and smelt a chemical.
However, he was apprehended, handed over to Angagura police station and charged with attempted suicide.
But he was immediately rushed to Angagura Health Centre 3 where his condition deteriorated before being referred to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly.
Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Regional Police Public Relations Officer, says the police recorded a report of attempted suicide on reference CRB 522/2020 adding that it shall now be upgraded to suicide.
The police officer says that the police visited the scene, recorded relevant statements before handing the body to the relatives for burial without conducting postmortem.
“Postmortem was not done because the relatives objected saying it was not necessary since they all knew the cause of the death” says Mr Okema.
Section 210 of the Penal Code Act stipulates that any person who attempts to kill himself or herself commits a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for life.
