Court in Nwoya has sentenced a 31-year-old man to two years in prison for stealing a dress worth Shs80,000.

Prosecution told court that Jimmy Akena, a resident of Pudyek Sub-ward in Ogom Ward, Anaka Town Council, stole a kitenge dress belonging to Judith Tugume when she was away from home.
Presided over by Grade One magistrate, Susan Anyeko, court heard that Akena committed the offence on April 15, 2021, contrary to Section 254(1) and 261 of the Penal Code Act.
Akena who was also charged with criminal trespass contrary to Section 302(a) of the Penal Code Act, pleaded guilty to the offences. However, he asked for clemency saying he committed the crimes under the influence of alcohol.
In her verdict, the magistrate said she believed that by the time the convict completes his sentence, he shall have lost the desire for alcohol.

“I believe, by the time you get out of prison, you will have developed a dislike for alcohol which has proven tempting in committing offences” Ms Anyeko ruled.
