High Court sitting in Kampala has concluded hearing a case over the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Masindi district LC 5 chairman’s seat in the 2021 elections.

The case was filed by the Masindi District LC 5 Chairman, Mr Cosmas Byaruhanga, against the NRM Election Disputes Tribunal challenging its decision to nullify his victory in the party primaries handing over the flag to Mr Wilson Isingoma Mugimba.
This was after the results for three sub-counties were cancelled.
The case was heard by Justice Emmanuel Baguma.
Mr Mugimba who was jointly sued with the NRM tribunal told Kazi-njema News that the judge dismissed the case adding that he is now to embark on the process of ensuring that the Electoral Commission nominates him as the NRM flag bearer.

However, when contacted, Mr Byaruhanga said the case was not dismissed but rather the judge referred it to the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) alleging that the judge purported that he could not entertain party matters in court.
Mr Byaruhanga expressed his dissatisfaction with the court decision vowing to appeal against it in the Court of Appeal and the NRM CEC.
Kazi-njema News could not independently verify what transpired in court since we could not access the court documents at the time of filing this story.
However, a source that attended the hearing told our reporter that court did not award costs to either party.
