Masindi woman commits suicide

A 22-year-old woman has committed suicide at Kirasa 1 Cell in Central Division, Masindi District.

The deceased only identified as Viola allegedly hanged herself in their rented house on Sunday evening.

Mr Ismail Nyeusi, Viola’s landlord, told our reporter at the scene that the deceased and her husband only identified as Patrick a born of Iganga had spent one year and two months in his house.

It is not clear why Viola took her life but Mr Nyeusi said that she had been battling a disease that prompted her husband to send her back to Iganga for treatment and she had just returned at the time she committed suicide.

Mr Nyeusi said that the couple was in a good relationship adding that before the incident, Viola had sent her husband to buy her a jack fruit from the nearby trading centre.

However, on return, Patrick found his wife having locked herself inside their rented single room and she could not respond to his call prompting him to break the window when he saw his wife hanging on a rope.

The village chairman, Hamza Kabaka confirmed Viola’s death but could not divulge the details.

Police took the body to Masindi Hospital for postmortem.
