President Yoweri Museveni has advised Ugandans to apply the same tactics of Pan-Africanism that Omukama Cwa II Kabaleega of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom used to overcome the challenges that faced society.

In a message read for him by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Col (Rtd) Tom Butime, at the commemoration of 100 years since the demise of Omukama Kabaleega, the president said the challenges that the people of the Kabaleega era faced are similar to those the current generation is facing, too.

He said just like how Kabaleega prioritised the betterment of his subjects, so is the current Uganda’s political government is doing fronting stability and infrastructural development.

The president, thus, urged the authorities of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom to guide the Omukama’s subjects on agricultural enterprise selection to cause prosperity in the kingdom.

At the same occasion held at Buyanja Secondary School in Kibaale district, State Minister for Public Service, Ms Grace Mary Mugasa, urged the people of Bunyoro to work and develop the region economically, letting the 1890s’ negative occurrences to be bygones.

She said concentrating on achieving financial muscle is the best way to cause development for the Bunyoro kingdom at this time when capitalism has taken over the world economy.

Prof Mwangursya Ndebesa, a lecturer at Makerere University School of Humanities and Social Sciences who was the day’s guest speaker, hailed Omukama Kabaleega for standing for freedom, equality and inclusivity besides being a genius, brave and strong ideologist who fought for the wellbeing of his subjects.

He advised all Banyoro to emulate and adopt the fallen Omukama Kabaleega’s legacy for a better Bunyoro.

The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister, Mr Andrew Kirungi Byakutaaga Ateenyi, called upon the Banyoro to work towards unity and development.

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom, Hajji Twaha Kawaase, who delivered the Kabaka’s message, also urged the people of Bunyoro to unite and develop the kingdom.
