President Yoweri Museveni has promoted his son, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to the rank of full General but dropped him from being commanding the infantry wing of the national forces.
Maj Gen Muhanga Kayanja – the field commander of Operation Shujaa in the DRC, replaces Gen Muhoozi as the new Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) of Land Forces and has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
According to sources, Gen Muhoozi, however, retains his position as Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations in the changes President Museveni announced today Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
Gen Muhoozi has served as Commander Land Forces for less than two years.
The promotion means that Gen Muhoozi who was 11 years old when his father’s National Resistance Army (NRA) toppled Gen Tito Okello Lutwa’s government in 1986 is now on the same rank as his father, Gen Museveni.
The new promotion also makes Gen Muhoozi one of the highest ranking officers in the defence forces where until today, he has served as the commander of the Land Forces since his most recent elevation in 2021.
