The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) mobilisers in Bunyoro Region have appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to retire Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) so he can concentrate on the bid for presidency in the 2026 General Elections.

They say Uganda needs a young leader whose ability both mentally and physically cannot be doubted.

The call was made during a press conference held at Best of the Best Gardens in Hoima City, where PLU mobilisers gathered to boost morale in support of Gen Muhoozi’s presidential ambition.

Gen Muhoozi who is son to President Museveni is also Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) in Uganda’s national army.

Mr Jovan Alinaitwe aka Anointed Muhoozi, the Bunyoro Regional PLU Senior Mobiliser, expressed the need for a new generation of leaders despite the fact that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has registered numerous achievements in developing the country.

“It is time for Gen Muhoozi to take over the mantle and help Uganda to achieve what the NRM has not achieved,” he said.

Ms Stella Kobugabe, the PLU Mobiliser from Hoima city, said that she was optimistic that if Gen Muhoozi retired from the army, it would help him to pay attention to critical issues like the establishment of Bunyoro Public University and address unemployment challenges.

“When one grows, he can’ think properly as he could and even the body is weak to run the nation,” she said.

Mr Ramathan Kyakuni, the Chairperson Bunyoro Traders Association, hopes if given full control, Gen Muhoozi can help the nation to get rid of rebel groups like the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) who are hiding in the forests of DR Congo.

“Muhoozi also helped to rebuild the relationship between Uganda and Rwanda and the consequent opening of the closed international boundary.
