President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa has challenged the people of Bunyoro to work towards economic prosperity by utilizing the improved road network in the region.
While speaking at Bwikya Primary School in Hoima city yesterday, he said, agricultural products can now easily be reached to markets since the connectivity issue has been solved through expansion of tarmac roads.
“People need to increase production in order to benefit. As government we have paid our debt by upgrading these major roads”, he said
The President had finished commissioning three major roads in Bunyoro which are; Bulima-Kigumba, Bulima Kabwoya-Kyenjojo and Hoima-Butiaba-Wanseko.
The Kigumba-Kyenjojo connection is regarded as an integral one because it connects northern Uganda with the south of the country boosting business interaction and tourism promotion.
President Museveni dismissed claims that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government is constructing roads in Bunyoro just because of oil discovery but not because it intends to stimulate development amongst the people of Bunyoro.
“There are people confusing the public but the reality is that with or without oil discovery, the government had plans and would eventually upgrade roads in the region”, he explained.
Mr Museveni also encouraged people to embrace the 4-Acre Model to improve agriculture productivity and ensure food security.
Poor road network in Bunyoro used to be a baseline for opposition politicians to degrade NRM popularity and indeed it worked for more than 20 years of President Museveni’s rule.
