Museveni vows to sack corrupt officials

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni.

President Yoweri Museveni has once again threatened to sack government officials who engage in corruption.

Speaking at the 37th NRM Liberation Day celebrations at Kakeeka grounds in Kakumiro town on Thursday, Mr Museveni said he had on several occasions had complaints about District Service Commissions soliciting for bribes for one to get a job in local governments.

He also said he was irked by complaints that some officials at District Service Commissions demand sex from young women applying for jobs; urging members of society to get evidence and report the matter to the concerned authorities for stern action against the perpetrators.

“I have heard the Bazukulu crying about the District Service Commissions selling local government jobs. I have heard of girls being exploited sexually as bribes for jobs. Get evidence, please, devoted members of the public and we expunge and roast those pigs,” he said.

The president also said although some people who stole Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga funds were either arrested or forced to refund the money, more needs to be done against them.

“It is not enough. Corruption will be stamped out.”

Mr Museveni wondered how corruption continues to exist in society in the presence of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers and District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) warning them to act in order to deal with the vice that has widely spread in the country.

“The DISOs and the CIDs should also be on notice. How does such corruption go on in your AOR (Area of Responsibility) and you do not know or, if you know, you do not report? Why, then, preserve such parasites? Get the evidence and we get rid of them. They can be prosecuted criminally,” he continued.
