Nwoya police have in detention a man for killing his wife following a fight over Shs2,000 at Miya Lagony Trading Centre in Lii Sub-county.

Reports indicate that on 6 this month, the deceased, Florence Amono, 52, went to the trading centre to change a Shs20,000 note before her husband, Richard Ojok, 52, allegedly grabbed Shs2,000 from her to buy soda for her step children.

Francis Opiyo Ajila, the deceased’s nephew told Kazi-njema News reporter that Amono’s attempts to get back the money from her husband resulted in a fight with Ojok hitting her head several times on the wall of the bar he operates.

The duo went back to their home at Lii Pakiya village but the deceased’s health deteriorated the following day before being rushed to a private clinic in Koch Goma town.

However, her health continued deteriorating and she was referred to St Mary’s Lacor Hospital in Gulu City where she breathed her last on 14 this month following the head injuries she sustained during the fight.

A police officer attached to Nwoya Central Police Station said Ojok was arrested on charges of murder immediately the same day the mother of seven died.

ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokespersons confirmed the report.

The Lii Sub-county chairman, Simon Ongom Okwigi, called for calm among the deceased’s relatives to let police carry on with investigations.

“Revenge is not the solution to this problem as of now. We [authorities] will be there keeping close monitoring to ensure that no more life is lost in the area” Mr Ongom said.
