At least one person has been confirmed dead and another 10 critically injured in road crashes during the National Unity Platform (NUP) procession in Hoima District.

Police have identified the dead as Norman Mugisa, a technician at Buhimba Technical Institute in Buhimba town council, Kikuube district.

The deceased was part of the multitude of people who moved behind the NUP party President, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine from Hoima city to Kigorobya town to boost the NUP candidate – Mr Moses Aguuda’s rally.

SP Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Relations Officer, says the accident occurred at Mpuunda village in Kitoba sub-county along the Hoima-Butyaba Road in Hoima district.

Mugisa died instantly when motorcycles collided.

None of the motorcycles and vehicles involved in the accident has been put in police custody for investigations since the crowd whisked them away from the traffic police that rushed to the scene.

However, the police are continuing to investigate the actual cause of the accident that occurred at around 5pm yesterday. The 10 who were injured were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for medication where they have been admitted.

An eye witness has told Kazi-njema news that the accident was a result of a sudden break by one of the trucks in the convoy.
