One person died and others sustained serious and minor injuries when a Canter truck hit a Fuso lorry carrying sugarcane cutters from Rukondwa Village in Bikonzi-Sub-county, Masindi District on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Reagan Tumusabe, 19, resident of Karongo Village in Budongo Sub-county, Masindi District.
Mr Stanley Anguyo, one of the survivors told our reporter that the Fuso lorry was carrying more than 50 people heading to Kiryamasaasa village, Bikonzi sub-county to cut sugarcane when the accident occurred along Kitonozi-Rukondwa Road at around 8am.
He said that the speeding Canter lorry skidded off the slippery road surface before hitting the Fuso lorry when the driver tried to overtake the Fuso lorry, severely injuring four sugarcane cutters while others escaped with minor injuries.
Mr Anguyo added that those with minor injuries were rushed to Kinyara Health Centre while those with serious injuries including Caesar Omiku and Joel Kuzama and Tumusabe were taken to Masindi General Hospital where the latter died.

Mr Simon Baguma, the Masindi Hospital Administrator, told our reporter that Tumusabe died shortly after admission while Kuzama who was in critical condition was referred to Lacor Hospital in Gulu for better medical management.
He said the remaining were still at Masindi hospital.
The vehicles registration numbers were not readily available by the time of this publication.
