Efforts to get a comment from the Aswa region police spokesperson, David Ongom Mudong, were futile since his known office phone number was off by press time.

However, a police officer attached to Agoro police post and preferred to remain anonymous told this website that a murder case was registered under SD Reference 09/23/07/2021 and a number of Obere clan members detained at Lamwo central police station.

The scuffle began when close to 100 Obere clan members reportedly attacked the Kila clan members over a piece of land they claimed they wanted to reclaim from the latter alleging that they offered it to them over 40 years ago.

In reprisal, the Kila clan members looted more than 70 head of cattle and more that 100 goats from the Obere clan at around 6am yesterday (Saturday), July 24, 2020.

However, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers swung into action and fired live bullets into the air to scare and disperse the belligerent clan members.

Mr Gadensio Obonyo, the land court mediator for Pudii area land committee, faulted the Obere clan members for the clash.

“For long, the Obere clan members have been planning to attack the Kila clan members until they decided to execute their successful bad mission on Friday”. Said Mr Obonyo.

Mr Jackson Balmoi, a member of the Kila clan accused the Obere of flouting a court order reportedly passed in 2018.

“In 2018, Gulu High Court ruled in our favour and gave us ownership of the right over the same but to date, the same Obere clan members are still provoking us and even digging in the same land,” he said.
