More than 500 people including children have pitched camp for the annual Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) Church Camp Meeting at their main church premises in Kikwite Cell, East Division in Hoima City.
At least 1,500 people from eight main churches, chapels and branches under SDA Church Hoima district are expected to camp for nine days as recommended in the Bible’s Old Testament.
The camp meeting has been officially opened by Pr Isaiah Musinguzi on behalf of Mike Kyomuhendo Akiiki – the host pastor who was away for the same mission.
His sermon dwelt on the importance of stewardship and discipleship for evangelism.
Master Guide Bright Ahumuza who is the Camp Master told Kazi-njema Radio that the response for campers is highly motivating compared with last year.
He said that there 300 campers on the side of adults, 2,350 on the side of children and about 50 on the side of the youth as more tents are seen being constructed.
Asked about the importance of Camp Meeting, Ahumuza said that it is an annual ceremony traced back in the Old Testament of the bible symbolising the temporary life people live in the world.
Mr Denis Kaija, the Director Bright Stars Nursery and Primary School located at Buhamba village in Kitoba sub-county, Hoima district who is among the campers said that the camp meeting helps him to relax from work stress for nine days when he also concentrates on discovering more about God.
“You can get more about this ceremony in Leviticus Chapter 23. It is an annual feast where the children of Israel would meet away from their homes like a rest,” he said.
The Camp Meeting which started on Friday with arrival will be concluded on Sabbath (Saturday) next week with baptism by immersion for the yet to be baptised SDA Church members and new converts if any.
The function that cherished by the SDA church is unpopular among other Christian denominations, much as it has a clear foot print in the bible – their acceptable source of faith.
It is worth to note that the other Christians’ belief in Christianity focuses much on the New Testament that dwells on Jesus Christ from which they derive their identity as Christians that fulfils the Old Covenant which is a promise of the coming of Christ in the New Covenant.
The theme for this year’s camp meeting is ‘I will go as a faithful steward.’
