Remanded Hoima ‘Bishop’ released on bail

Christ the Way Church "Bishop" David Kaliisa, released on bail.

Hoima Magistrate’s Court has today Monday, February 27, 2023, released on bail embattled “Bishop” David Kaliisa aka David King of Christ the Way Church in Hoima City after spending four days in prison awaiting trial on charges of meddling with the estate of the deceased.

David Kaliisa was detained on February 23, 2023, and arraigned before court from where he was remanded to Hoima government prison.

His Worship Elijah Iradukunda did not allow “Bishop” David Kaliisa to enter any plea since the magistrate with the jurisdiction to hear his case was not present at the time.

Today, David Kaliisa’s lawyer, Marvin Asiimwe Bunjo, applied for bail and His Worship Iradukunda agreed to release Bishop David Kaliisa saying he was “satisfied that the accused’s sureties are substantial.”

The magistrate ordered David Kaliisa to pay Shs500,000 bail cash as one of the conditions for his release. The ‘bishop’ was ordered to appear in court again on April 5, 2023.

However, the magistrate cautioned him not to interfere with the investigations or else his bail will be terminated if he misbehaves.

His sureties who included his wife, Ms Samali Mwikiriza Kaliisa, Mr Timothy Amanyire, 51, and Ms Catherine Komugisa, 48, were each ordered to pay a non-cash of Shs10m.

David Kaliisa’s lawyer said it is constitutional for his client to be granted bail.
