Seven players and fans for Ajono FC of Arua District have perished in a road accident and several others injured after a Fuso truck carrying them overturned at Ediofe trading centre in Arua, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has revealed.

However, Mr Bosco Onama, the Arua FUFA delegate could not reveal the deceased’s identities since he did not have them at his fingertips by press time.
Mr Onama said the incident took place on Sunday at around 8pm where six died on spot and another died on arrival at Arua Regional Referral Hospital in Arua City adding that several other fans and players of the regional league outfit Ajono FC were injured and are currently being treated at Arua Regional Referral Hospital.
The delegate said the truck was carrying the Vura based regional league outfit Ajono FC players and fans back home from a friendly match against Oreku Football Club.
Mr Onama attributed the accident to overloading.
Efforts to get a comment from the West Nile regional police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, were futile as she never answered our repeated calls.
The truck’s registration number was also readily established by publication time.
