Six suspected robbers killed in Paidha

Six suspected robbers have been killed and several houses torched down following a robbery at Cana Village in Omua Ward, Paidha Town Council in Zombo District.

The deceased have been identified as Kabalye Tekwakwo, 31, Muzamil James Jembe, 30, Okunya, 26, David Oryema, Cobidongo, 26, and Aziz, 35. The deceased were residents of Paidha town council and Nyapea sub-county in Zombo district.

The six met their demise after some criminals stabbed and robbed a businessman, Stephen Mubanga, of his an unspecified amount of money. Mubanga is a resident of Amir Zingili village in Paidha town council.

In retaliation, irate businessmen mobilised and killed the six suspected serial criminals believed to have been terrorising residents of Paidha town council.

The West Nile/ North West Nile regions police spokeswoman, Josephine Angucia, told Kazi-njema News that two people identified as James Jakisa, 17, and Hassan Waswa, 18, have so far been arrested to assist police in investigations over the murder.

However, she said several suspects are on the run as police continue hunting for them adding that inquiries continue under Paidha SD reference CRB 52/2021.

Ms Angucia advised the youths to desist from criminal acts but instead engage in productive and income generating activities to develop their financial statuses.

“Mob action is unlawful. Suspected criminals should be handed over to police for proper legal management instead of killing them,” said Ms Angucia.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the six suspected hard core criminals were taken to Paidha Health Centre 3 for postmortem before being handed over to the relatives for burial.

The law

Article 188 of the Penal Code Act states that any person who of malice aforethought causes the death of another person by an unlawful act or omission, commits murder and shall be sentenced to death as maximum punishment.
