Three die in Nakasongola accident

Rescuers pull out the dead and injured from the bus wreckage following the accident that occurred today (Thursday), March 11, 2021 at Katugo Village in Nakasongola District.

Three people have been confirmed dead and several others injured when the bus they were travelling in en-route from Moyo to Kampala got involved in an accident at Katugo Village in Nakasongola District.

The Savannah region police spokesman, ASP Isaiah Semwogerere could not provide the details of the deceased by press time as all police attention was on rescuing the injured in the accident that took place today (Thursday) at around 1pm.

“Our focus as police right now is to save life. Meanwhile other details will come in later,” said Mr Semwogerere.

The police officer said the injured were rushed to a nearby health facility as efforts to transfer to Kampala those in critical condition continued.

Mr Semwogerere told Kazi-njema News that the accident happened when the bus registration number UBE 379 O belonging to Zawadi Bus Company had a head on collision with a trailer carrying beer before it overturned resulting in loss of life.

He said the bus driver was trying to overtake a fleet of vehicles when the bus collided with the trailer whose registration number was not readily established by press time.

Mr Semwogerere attributed the accident to the bus driver’s reckless driving and over speeding.
