Two people are feared dead after a fuel tanker they were occupying today (Saturday), April 24, 2021, plunged into River Nile at Karuma Bridge in Kiryandongo District.

The tanker registration number UAS 337M which was coming from Gulu failed to brake forcing the driver to lose control before ramming into the bridge.
The Aswa River Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema, told Kazi-njema News that police have kicked off a search for two occupants of the tanker.
‘The speeding vehicle did not stop at our checkpoint located at the road to Arua and Kamdin. It continued before it rammed into the guardrails at the bridge before plunging into the water with two occupants who can’t be seen or traced. The fuel tanker belongs to one Charles Busuulwa,” ASP Okema told our reporter.
The police officer appealed to travellers to follow guidelines meant to ease traffic flow saying highway patrol teams have been deployed to reinforce the police at Karuma Bridge.

‘We appeal to travellers more especially drivers to observe rules and regulations especially while approaching the bridge.”
Asked whether the tanker was loaded with fuel which could pollute the Nile waters, Mr Okema said police have not yet established it as nothing of the vehicle can be seen in the river.
