Two people died instantly on Monday when the truck they were travelling in selling local wine overturned between Mucwini and Madiopei Villages along the Kitgum-Madiopei Road in Lamwo District.
The deceased have been identified as the truck driver Oscar Ojede, 33, resident of Anai ward, West Division in Lira city and a wine salesman only identified as Odongpiny, 32, resident of Bucoro village in Unyama sub-county, Gulu district.
ASP David Mudong Ongom, the Aswa River Police Public Relations Officer, told this website that the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle when the duo was distributing Royal Bank, a local wine in the truck registration number UBG 771W at around 12pm.
The police officer said the deceased’s bodies were taken to Yotkom Hospital mortuary while the truck was towed to Madiopei police station pending examination by the Inspector Of Vehicles (IOV) as the police registered a fatal case accident vide TAR/04/2023.
According to the police annual crime report for 2021, a total of 628 accidents were recorded in the Aswa River Region with 173 fatalities and 123 serious cases.
