The Uganda Police Force has been crowned overall champions of the 16th edition of inter-force games and championships after an 11-day sporting season held at Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area, Mweya in Kasese District.
The games ran from September 19th to 29th, 2022.
The inter force games and champions are an annual event where all four security forces of Uganda including the Uganda Police Force (UPF), the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) field their best teams in different games and sports.
This year’s competitions were in the areas of football, netball, handball, volleyball, marksmanship (range shooting) and darts.
Presiding over the closing of the nearly two-week event, Defence and Security Minister, Mr Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, witnessed the kickoff of the final football match between UPF and UWA expressing his gratification to UWA’s level of organisation as hosts of the games and championships.
He observed that UPDF’s overall performance was dismal and fell short of praise hastening to add that such a performance was a wakeup call to all teams that had not performed satisfactorily to correct their mistakes and do much better in the coming editions.
The minister encouraged the young men and women in the forces to always like and willingly participate in the games and sports for the many benefits derivable from exercising their bodies.
“Sports in the modern world is one of the biggest, fastest rewarding businesses where young people reap millions of shillings by doing what they enjoy,” he said.
The overall aggregate results from all the six games placed the UPF atop the three other security force teams in the games and championships 2022.
The first runners up the UPS obtained 03 gold, 05 silver and 03 bronze medals.
UPDF was third with 02 gold, 03 silver and 04 bronze medals.
The hosts – UWA came fourth in the competitions.
The UPF was crowned with the winner’s flag and was chosen to host next year’s inter force games and competitions.
