Uganda U-23 national football team (Kobs) finished fifth at the 2021 CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup tournament in Ethiopia after beating Eritrea 2-1 in the second classification match played at the Bahir Dar International Stadium yesterday (Wednesday), July 28.

The Kobs scored in each half in the 39th and 71st minutes while Eritrea’s consolation goal was scored in the 89th minute, thus, Uganda ending the tournament unbeaten and in 5th position out of nine teams that took part.

Uganda Kobs national team head coach, Morley Byekwaso, lauded the players for the effort and pointed to the key positives from the tournament.

“We have learnt a lot from the tournament. Many players have been exposed and going forward garnered experience. We need to push away the chances created. For the KCCA and Express players going to the CECAFA Kagame Cup, it has been extra preparations,” Byekwaso said.

Meanwhile, the final will be between Tanzania and Burundi tomorrow Friday, July 30, 2021.

Burundi defeated Kenya 4-2 in post-match penalties after a goalless draw in normal time.
