The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has started mobilising its members in Bunyoro Sub-region as part of its national efforts to prepare for the 2026 general elections contest.

They aim to bring more youths on board as one of the priority strategies to have their structures rooted into the local government and be able to outcompete the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Addressing the first meeting in Bunyoro region at Hoima Cultural Lodge, in Hoima city over the weekend, the party Assistant General Secretary, Mr John Bakabulindi Kigongo, called upon Ugandans to support its efforts for a better Uganda.

He also urged UPC members to identify other members who can potentially be candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Mr Kigongo said that the party also looks at mobilising Ugandans in the diaspora to maximise opportunities of winning elections at different levels.

According to him, Bunyoro sub-region is the second area of target after Lango as they invest in politics.

Mr Matia Kajura, the UPC Bunyoro Regional Coordinator cum Hoima City aspiring Member of Parliament (MP), stressed the need for more youths into the party to build strong structures.

He called upon the youths to use the available space to brand themselves saying that nominations will be free for aspiring party leaders.

“We have steadily improved because between 2015 and 2020, the party registered no flag bearers on its ticket but from 2021 more than 15 leaders from local government were registered,” he said.

It is on this background that prior mobilisation and registration of members will lead to success, he added.

He stressed that only cooperation will define people’s abilities to change leadership for better service delivery.

The party stalwarts revealed that Mr Jimmy Akena, will be the party representative for the presidential bid.
