Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza.

A 37-year-old man has been shot dead by a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier in Biiso Sub-county, Buliisa District.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Mutazindwa, a resident of Civic Cell in Buliisa Town Council.

Mr Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, told Kazi-njema News today (Monday) that the deceased was shot dead by a UPDF soldier on duty at a gravel quarry site in Biiso where he was allegedly siphoning fuel.

Mr Hakiza said that the soldier on duty charged when the deceased tried to disarm him in his intervention to have him arrested.

The deceased’s accomplices escaped arrest after their colleague was shot and died on the spot.

The truck that was being siphoned belonged to a Chinese construction company polishing the Hoima-Butyaba-Buliisa-Wanseko Road.

However, truck registration number was not readily established by publication of this story.

Mr Hakiza said that investigations into the matter are underway so that police get more facts about the incident that happened in the wee hours of today (Monday).

He warned the public against fuel siphoning saying it puts their life at risk alongside sabotaging government projects.
