URA to tax social media influencers in June 2022

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) expects by June 1, 2022, to have in place taxation policies on commercial transactions conducted electronically on the internet like on social media.

Mr John Musinguzi, the URA Commissioner General, says they have already submitted their policy measures to the Finance, Planning and Economic Development Ministry with expectation that the policies are passed by Parliament and enforced in the next financial year 2022-2023.

He made the remarks during the two day 10th annual Taxation training for Justices of the High

During the training, Mr Musinguzi urged the judiciary together with the Tax Appeals Tribunal to dispose of the backlog of 350 tax cases valuing more than Shs1.2t for this money to be injected into the country’s economy.

Principal Judge, Justice Flavian Zeija, who opened the training, said that they are to ensure cases related to URA are prioritised in court so that they are disposed of and have the money circulated into the economy.

The training was under the theme: “Developments in Tax law, Policy and Administration, Delivering Uganda to Economic Independence”.
