French troops have been deployed over a wide region in northern Africa to combat Jihadists.

A French helicopter crash has killed 13 French soldiers in an operation against Jihadists in Mali, according to the French president’s office.
A statement said the incident took place on Monday evening. Emmanuel Macron, the French President has expressed “sadness” over the accident.
Mali has been embroiled in violence since 2012 when the Islamist militants captured the north.
However, with the help of the French forces, Mali’s army has recaptured the territory.

Despite this, violence has spilled to neighbouring countries and insecurity continues in the region.
Another French soldier, Brigadier Ronan Pointeau, was killed earlier this month after an explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
