22 civilians have been brutally killed near Beni city in the restless eastern part of DR Congo.

The attacks have been blamed on the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF)- a militia group that has killed 100 people over the past month.
In October, an offensive was launched against the ADF but for the first time in years, the Congolese military decided not to work jointly with the UN peacekeepers there.
The rebels responded by attacking isolated villages. Civilians have been calling for protection, according to the explanation by Laura Seay, a political analyst.
