3 gold miners killed in South Sudan

At least three gold miners have been shot dead in Kapoeta South County of Equatoria State in South Sudan.

A local official confirmed that thre men were gunned down in the Lowering gold mining area by suspected Buya youth from Budi County on Monday.

Juma Justine, the Executive Director cum, Ag. County Commissioner has told the Bor town based Radio Tamazuj  the attackers are suspected to be the same youths whose attempt to raid cattle as the country commemorated the twelfth Independence Day anniversary in Riwoto were foiled.

He says the criminals returned on Monday and killed three members of the same area in the new gold mining area.

“They killed Lotoer Lomukunyo, Lopidinga Lomukunyo, and Lotyam Namurya on the spot. The fourth miner managed to flee,” he said.   

The government has condemned the killings and said security forces are tracking the criminals.
